Scope of Practice

As a certified doula, I am committed to providing compassionate, non-medical support to families during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. My role is to offer emotional, physical, and informational support while respecting the choices and autonomy of my clients.

What I Do:

  1. Provide continuous emotional support during labor and birth
  2. Offer physical comfort measures such as massage, positioning suggestions, and breathing techniques
  3. Share evidence-based information to help clients make informed decisions
  4. Assist with creating and communicating birth preferences
  5. Provide early postpartum support, including breastfeeding assistance and newborn care tips
  6. Offer prenatal education and preparation
  7. Provide referrals to other professionals when needed

What I Don't Do:

  1. Perform any medical tasks or make medical decisions
  2. Speak on behalf of the client to medical staff
  3. Diagnose medical conditions or interpret medical results
  4. Prescribe treatments or medications
  5. Deliver babies or catch babies during birth
  6. Make decisions for my clients
  7. Project my personal beliefs onto my clients' birth experiences

My Commitment:

I am dedicated to supporting you in having a positive and empowering birth experience. I will work alongside your healthcare providers, respecting their roles and the medical aspects of your care. My goal is to enhance, not replace, the care provided by your medical team.

I support all types of births - medicated, unmedicated, cesarean - and all feeding choices. My role is to support you in your decisions, not to push any particular type of birth or parenting style. If at any point your needs extend beyond my scope of practice, I will refer you to appropriate healthcare providers or resources.

Remember, as your doula, I am here to support and empower you throughout your journey into parenthood, always respecting your choices and your unique path.
